Selecting onboard cameras by mounting position

The monitoring task determines the camera category

Cab, forward-facing, equipment-bay, roof and underbody positions have different targets and require different fields of view, imaging modes, illumination and protection.

Validate field of view and obstructions

Confirm height, tilt, orientation and obstructions against the target area. A high-resolution camera cannot compensate for a target hidden by structure, kept at the frame edge or degraded by reflections.

Account for lighting and operating environment

Windshield coatings, tunnels, rain, fog, sun, oil and airflow alter image conditions. Confirm whether dual-light imaging, WDR, supplemental lighting, heating or additional protection is required.

Confirm the gateway interface at the same time

Power, IP or analog interface, video format, cable length and connector direction should be reviewed together with the video gateway and cable arrangement.

Can one camera model cover every position?

Not by default. Field of view, lighting, protection, space and maintenance differ by mounting position and should drive the selection.

Why validate the view on a pilot vehicle?

It exposes obstruction, reflection, low-light, illumination and installation-interference issues before a wider deployment.
